The Kitchen Remodel....

We transformed the kitchen into a cozy, functional space that meets the family’s needs, with safety features for their autistic son and enhanced storage. The design includes a custom pantry, built-in microwave, coffee center, and elegant cabinetry. Rich alder wood and durable quartz elevate the space’s beauty and practicality, ensuring long-lasting comfort.

In designing this kitchen, the client expressed a desire for a cozy, durable space that acted as a comfortable family area by providing accessibility and safety for their autistic son while maximizing storage and utility. The room started with an overhang island, unnecessary space above the cabinets, and a lack of storage. To fix the issues with safety and storage we repurposed the drywall closet into a built-in pantry complete with a 2-in-1 microwave and convection oven, refrigerator, and ample cabinet and counter space. We extended the additional cabinetry to a serving area adjacent to the kitchen table and added a coffee center with retractable doors where the appliances used to be. The cooktop and decorative hood became the focal point of the space by replacing the original microwave. With the added safety of the controls being on top of the cooktop it also allowed for ample storage underneath. The extension of the cabinets to the ceiling, as well as the choice in a rich, driftwood colored alder wood, reduced hassle and maintenance for the client. To add contrast and personality to the space, the island was topped with a very durable charcoal grey quartz that matched the hood while the perimeter countertops were made of a highly durable, maintenance-free, soft white quartz with grey and beige veining to seamlessly connect the design. Our client was thrilled with the new warmth brought to the space, the modern look and the easy-care, long-lasting materials.

The clients are nearing retirement age and wanted to update the kitchen to host their growing family including grandchildren and pets. They have an adult autistic son who lives with them. Updating the kitchen to support their family lifestyle and needs. With little spare time, they wanted their kitchen to be highly efficient, organized, and easy to maintain, while being attractive, and providing ample space for hosting family gatherings. They wanted the design to be forward thinking and appealing to their adult children who visit often. The desired features that will increase potential resale value as they may relocate eventually.

The clients desired a comfortable, cozy kitchen with excellent organization, ample storage, and easy-care finishes for their busy lifestyle with two dogs and an autistic son. They wanted to update the style, include appliance storage coffee center, increase food storage, and have space to extra dishes for hosting family gatherings.

We added additional storage space with the cabinets and used durable materials such as alder wood and quartz. The island was extended and displays an accent countertop to provide personality.
