Accessible Design – Kitchen and two baths Naperville, IL

WINNER 2020 ASID DESIGN EXCELLENCE AWARD – UNIVERSAL DESIGN

Our client desired to update their home with current amenities and incorporate accessibility features throughout. We selected Alder cabinets, quartz counter tops and glass tile to create a space that is inviting and beautiful as well as fully accessible. We re-designed the kitchen and two bathrooms to be fully accessible

We designed accessible under cooktop and sink areas with removable panels and added an overhang at the island for wheelchair accessibility.

We captured additional serving space by adding wing walls at a formerly unused wall and building in a large buffet/ serving area with glass cabinets and ample storage.  As part of the project the wood floors were refinished and the doors and trim updated to a white, contemporary design.

The first-floor bathroom was completely transformed.  By designing the space to have a smaller, obscure glass window we were able to add a fully accessible roll-in shower complete with bench seat and handheld sprayers. The vanity is fully accessible with lighted mirror and toe-kick.

The second-floor bathroom was updated to have a new closet, fully accessible roll-in shower with bench seat and handheld sprayers and a fully accessible vanity with lighted toe-kick.
